Enhancements & Improvements

Say hello to a smarter, more organized Library. We’ve rolled out some enhancements to improve Library uploading and the organization of your photos in a faster, more flexible, and more intuitive way.

Photos in the Library can now live separate from your site galleries, giving you a personal space to store, sort, and hold onto photos before you're ready to share them. Additionally, you can now upload a folder and it will automatically recreate its structure as nested Labels, matching the structure you already built on your computer. From there, Labels let you organize your entire Library the way you want: nest them as deep as you like, drag and drop to reorganize, rename anytime, and browse by whatever system fits how you actually think about your photos.

iOS app updates

4.13.37: Sharing your favorite finds from Search is now fast and effortless. Gallery browsing feels smoother and more reliable, privately shared galleries now appear where you'd expect them on your phone, and canceling a download password prompt is clean and simple.

Subscription changes are now reflected instantly. When you upgrade, downgrade, or renew your subscription through Apple, your account updates immediately to match, so you get full access to your new plan right away, without waiting or needing to reach out to us.

Auto-Upload now works around iCloud hiccups. Some customers ran into an iCloud quirk where a single photo missing in iCloud would stall their entire Auto-Upload batch. Auto-Upload now recognizes these files, skips past them, and keeps your other photos uploading without interruption, so an occasional iCloud glitch never gets in the way of your backups.

Offline galleries now display exactly as expected. We've resolved an issue causing broken thumbnails to appear in galleries saved for offline viewing. Now, whether you're offline on a plane or off the grid, every image in your saved galleries loads exactly as it should.

iOS search results now load reliably. A rare timing issue could cause the app to crash while browsing search results. That's now fixed, so you can search and scroll through your results smoothly.

Saving photos to your camera roll now works flawlessly on iOS. A rare edge case could cause the app to crash while saving an image. This has been resolved, so saving your favorite shots to your device now works every time.

iOS galleries now load in full, every time. If even one photo in an album had missing or damaged file data behind the scenes, the entire gallery could fail to load on iOS, leaving a blank screen. This has been fixed, so your galleries display completely, every time.

macOS uploader updates

macOS launches are now handled gracefully, every time. If the desktop app was opened from certain folders like Downloads, it might crash on launch. Now, you'll see a friendly prompt guiding you to move the app to your Applications folder — smooth and simple, no crash in sight.

Uploads on macOS run without a hitch. A rare timing issue could occasionally cause a crash if an upload was removed while it was still finishing up. That's now fixed, so your uploads complete reliably from start to finish.

LrC plugin updates

Lightroom Classic plugin authorization now works with Safari. Mac users with Safari set as their default browser could run into an error when authorizing the SmugMug plugin. Authorization now works seamlessly, so you can get straight to publishing your edits from Lightroom Classic.

Bug Fixes

Library date filtering now behaves exactly as expected. Selecting an end date in the Library's date picker no longer auto-fills with your start date, and clearing it is now simple and independent, so filtering by date range is fast, and predictable.

Subscription receipt viewing improved. Some customers experienced trouble viewing or downloading their 2025 and 2026 subscription receipts. This has been resolved, and receipts now open reliably right in your browser.

A smoother checkout for your customers. We've fixed an issue where checkout might highlight the wrong field when something was missing, so your buyers now see exactly what needs their attention, right away. It's one more way we're staying on top of the details that keep your storefront running smoothly, so your customers can complete their purchase with confidence.

Account security strengthened. We've closed a gap in how password resets interact with email changes. Password reset links now expire the moment you change your email — so an old link can never be used to get into your account.

Fujifilm print orders now go through smoothly. A rare filename issue was occasionally preventing certain photo orders from reaching our print partner. Orders now sail through without a hitch.

Custom domains now verify and secure without delay. Some domains were getting stuck showing "Unknown" status with no certificate issued. Verification and certificate issuance now complete properly, so your custom domain stays live and secure.

Social links now save without a hitch. Adding your Facebook, Instagram, X, or YouTube profile to your Site Profile no longer triggers a validation error — so you can connect your socials and share your presence across the web.

Gallery images now display in full quality, every time. We've resolved an issue where a small number of recently uploaded images weren't generating all the sizes needed for crisp display. Your galleries now render beautifully with all the display sizes.

Custom domain SSL certificates now issue reliably. Some custom domains were getting stuck without a certificate, showing "Unknown" status and quietly falling back to the standard SmugMug URL. Certificates now issue as expected, so your custom domain stays live and secure without any extra steps on your end.

Moving photos between galleries now works instantly. This essential Organizer action was stuck instead of completing. It's now fixed, fast and reliable, so reorganizing your galleries takes seconds.

Organizer actions run smoothly again. Downloads, moves, collecting, and bulk deletions in the Organizer were occasionally failing to complete. Everything now processes reliably, so you can manage your photos with confidence.

Custom domain invite links now work on the first try. Participants logging in to accept an invite on a site with a custom domain could find their invite lost mid-process. This now completes smoothly the first time, so your collaborators get access right away.
